Costa Ballena Golf, chronicle of a renovation
It was 1997 when Costa Ballena Golf Club stopped being an ambitious project and opened its course Olivos & Palmeras to local golfers.
A portable tent worked as ProShop, office, reception and caddymaster. Offices that are currently conveniently located in the Club House.
At that time the construction of the par 3 course and the holes 19 to 27 (also known as Ficus course)began, Holes which at that time were only sketches and images on plans, Hotels such as Elba or Barceló Costa Ballena, today important providers of national and international clients in this resort, had barely placed their first brick and a chiringuito dispensed to the pioneer golfers of this golf course in Cadiz a basic offer of fastfood
More than two decades later Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club begins a new cycle in its history after a process of consolidation that has required years of hard work, achieving the goal of becoming a golf facilities benchmark in the national and international framework. Now, at the right time to be able to move forward, Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club renews its greens trying to recover its original design, originally conceived by the golf champion José María Olazabal. These were the object of a gradual modification from their beginnings in an imperceptible transformation, originated by the different exogenous and endogenous factors throughout all this time.
The first stage of this renovation has consisted of a complete greens change from holes 1 to 18 (olive and palm trees), replacing the old grass known as agrosti stolonifera and by Bermuda Mini Verde. This type of grass provides incredible ball rolling, resistance to disease, high resistance to trampling and biting, It looks dark green colour.
Another point that strengthen this change is the fact that it is not a kind of grass that needs so usual irrigation or a periodic use of phytosanitary products, making the mini bermuda a much more ecological and environmentally friendly variety.
Novogreen, which was the company in charge of the implementation and production of these new greens and their bermuda”mini verde”, are endorsed by the certification of ITGAP (The International Turfgrass Genetic Assurance Program), an international benchmark in turf quality certification programs.
This is only the beginning of a deep renovation process that will include some others important news, such as a quite new complete native App available in Google Play and Apple Store… or next and trascendent improvements in the practice area that we will reveal soon.
